A lot is happening with INDX this week. We’ve started shipping the first batch of INDX conversion kits. And starting today, you can order a complete Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) with Bondtech INDX, either assembled or as a kit, with 4 or 8 tools.

We are also reopening orders for INDX conversion kits for existing CORE One owners, so if you missed the first batch, you have another chance to get one.

Multi-material printing without the usual waiting and waste

If you missed our previous INDX updates, here is the short version.

INDX is the fastest way to print in multiple colors and materials, with almost nothing going in the bin.

It lets you print colorful models, combine rigid and flexible materials, add easy-to-remove or soluble supports, switch between nozzle sizes in the same job. It does all of this without the long filament swaps, purge towers, and piles of wasted filament that come with typical multi-material systems.

And there are more reasons why the Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) with INDX is basically the endgame of 3D printing:

✅ 8 independent tools. 8 loaded materials. Different nozzle sizes ready at all times
✅ True high flow with CHT, fast printing with your validated materials
✅ Low-latency temperature control with induction heating and low-mass nozzle. Fast heat-up and fast cool-down
✅ Dynamic dual-drive gear with large diameter. The grip strength self-adjusts based on the loaded material on pickup
✅ Accelerometer
✅ Class-leading loadcell mesh calibration
✅ Fast eddy current toolhead offset calibration with ambient noise cancellation
✅ Priming outside print area, with real print backpressure analog. Only 13 milligrams of material to fully prime. 1/5th of previous best in class!
✅ Waste/priming pellets are formed for direct recycling. No grinding or pre-processing needed before going in the filament extruder
✅ No waste/prime tower as the tool is pre-primed fully
✅ True Toolchange Time: ~12 seconds per change based on material. That’s from the last extrusion from one material to the first extrusion with the next, on the model itself. Achieved with removing the waste tower
✅ Enclosed heated chamber and automatic vent opening for low-temp materials

CORE One+ (Gen 2) with INDX, now as a complete printer

The assembled version arrives, built, calibrated and tested at our factory, so you can get printing almost immediately.

Or, if building the machine is part of the fun for you, the kit gives you the full assembly experience and the same INDX capabilities once it is finished.

The Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) with Bondtech INDX is available in four configurations:

  • Assembled, 8 tools
  • Assembled, 4 tools
  • Kit, 8 tools

INDX is already out in the wild

INDX has already been printing in customers’ homes and workshops for a while. The first Bondtech INDX Founders Edition units went to early adopters, so there are already plenty of real machines out there making multicolor and multi-material prints outside our own test labs.

The Founders Edition is not identical to the standard edition shipping now. We continued refining the design after the Founders Edition was produced, with hardware changes such as a more open front panel, new belts and pulleys, as well as regular updates to the firmware and print profiles.

Several creators have also shared their first impressions and real-world prints. Their videos are a great way to see INDX in action, just keep in mind that they were also recorded with the Founders Edition, so some details about hardware, configurations, ordering, and availability may differ from what we are shipping today. 🙂

A quick note on the nozzles

We’ve already been keeping customers from the first INDX batch updated directly by email, but we want to share the important part here as well.

As we explained in those updates, the nozzles supplied with INDX are surface-hardened rather than fully hardened, as originally specified by Bondtech. Before starting shipments, we ran extensive wear tests to understand what that means in real use. The results turned out considerably better than our initial accelerated tests suggested.

The INDX is fully capable of printing PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA, TPU, TPE, PVA, BVOH, HIPS, PC, Nylon, PP, PBT, unfilled PC Blend, and other non-abrasive materials (including our Galaxy filaments). Anything you’d print with a standard CORE One+ nozzle works perfectly here.

Like all 3D printer nozzles, INDX nozzles are consumable parts and will eventually wear, with the rate depending heavily on the material. Based on our testing, our current recommendation is roughly 10 kg of PETG-CF, 5 kg of PC-CF, or 0.5 kg of highly abrasive Ultraglow filament per nozzle. If your main use case is a machine dedicated to highly abrasive materials, the current nozzles are not the ideal solution.

We are continuing our testing, including accelerated wear tests with particularly abrasive materials, and the results are giving us some interesting insight into nozzle wear in general. We plan to share our findings in more detail in a future blog post.

What about CORE One L+ with INDX?

We know many of you are waiting for this one too. 🙂 CORE One L+ with INDX and the INDX conversion kit for CORE One L/+ are next in line. We are successfully running tests with INDX on the CORE One L+ and we’re currently building a new batch of pre-production units for larger scale testing. We’ll post an update as soon as we have more to share.

Summary

The first standard edition INDX conversion kits are now leaving our factory, orders are open again, and for the first time you can order a complete Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) with Bondtech INDX with the system already included.

Choose 4 or 8 tools, assembled or kit, load the materials you actually want to print with, and let the printer handle the switching.
