It’s been a year since we released the Original Prusa MK4S, our latest printer built on the iconic Prusa i3 design. While we’ve also focused on other innovative projects in the past 12 months, the MK4S is still an important part of our lineup. It remains an incredibly reliable machine, going strong in workshops around the world. It’s a printer that works even smoother with recent add-ons. What’s more, we’ve optimized its production process, so we’re permanently cutting its price by up to $70!

Still Having Its Own Edge
Maybe after the release of the CORE One, you thought the MK4S would be discontinued in the near future. Not at all. This machine still has a lot to offer. You can grab it with one hand, toss it on the car seat, carry it halfway across the world, plug it in, and it just works. It’s simple, portable, and dependable. The kind of machine you don’t have to overthink.
And that’s part of its charm. The open-frame design gives you instant access to every part of the printer, so quick tweaks and maintenance are effortless. It’s light enough to set up anywhere, yet sturdy enough to run day and night. If you want to tinker, it welcomes it. That’s why the kit version of the MK4S has become one of the most beloved DIY experiences in the 3D-printing world.
In fact, some of the craziest community projects we’ve ever seen were built on this platform: from fully custom multi-material setups to experimental 4-axis printing rigs. The MK4S is the kind of printer people enjoy pushing way beyond its original specs.
We love the new CoreXY designs for their speed, bigger build volumes, and enclosed chambers. But the MK4S remains an iconic all-rounder: a compact, go-anywhere workhorse that’s just as relevant today as ever.
Proven Workhorse
Since its launch, the MK4S has gone through numerous reviews and passed them with flying colors. TechRadar named it the “top choice for both enthusiasts and professionals; Tom’s Hardware stated that it’s “perfect for makers who need a reliable workhorse,” and there is much more positive feedback circulating the web.
Reviews aside, we’re mostly stoked about how well the MK4S performs in real-world scenarios. In the past year, it became a staple in smaller workshops, as well as big businesses. For example, the ultralight airplane producer SHARK.AERO recently upgraded its MK4 fleet to MK4S. Not only do SHARK.AERO’s intricate parts get printed faster, but they also have an even nicer surface finish. The same goes for Formula 2 team AIX Racing. Since they leveled up their MK3S printers to the 4S models, they print carbon fiber parts smoother and faster than ever before.
Farm-Ready and Safe
Plus, the MK4S does great in numbers. You could say it’s a true farm “animal” :-). We’ve been using hundreds of them on our print farm 24/7, and they produce perfect results, one print sheet after another – with very little maintenance.
If you want to see what it takes to set up a massive 50+ MK4S print farm, watch this insightful video from the 3D Printing Nerd:
Even with multiple MK4S printers under one roof (or just one in your living room), you don’t need to worry about toxic fumes. It’s the first-ever consumer FDM printer to pass the strict UL certification for low chemical emissions when using our Prusament PLA or PETG!
Efficiency UP, Price DOWN
After perfecting the machine itself, we’ve focused on fine-tuning its production process. Now, with the MK4S production dialed in perfectly, we can cut its price (both Assembled and Kit versions) up to 70USD/100EUR! First, we lowered the price for our Back to School deals but then decided to make the price drop permanent. This way, the MK4S gets more accessible to every 3D printing fan. 🙂 Check out the updated MK4S prices on the product page.
What’s Next?
The MK4S’ story doesn’t end with a price reduction. It wouldn’t be a Prusa printer if you couldn’t upgrade it as time goes by. Now you can equip it with the external Buddy3D camera running our secure, in-house-developed firmware to monitor your prints. We’ve recently added new functionalities to it to help it oversee your printing progress even better.
You can also pair your MK4S with the Prusa App. From there, you can slice your models on the go using the EasyPrint cloud slicer, send them directly to your trusty 3D printer, and monitor them through the Buddy3D camera. In addition, we’re planning future firmware updates, so stay tuned. It’s safe to say that the MK4S isn’t going anywhere.
You can throw practically anything at it: dwarven sniper miniatures or intricate parts for mass production. And if you ever feel like you could use more build volume, print faster, and with a wider array of materials, you can get yourself our conversion kit and rebuild your MK4S to our fully enclosed CORE One.

Happy Printing!

With the new price drop, a new printer is now cheaper than upgrading from mk3.
The pricing as of 2025-10-03:
There is a 5% discount active, costs are including this discount, but it 5% for both options, so it doesn't matter for comparing the options.
My mk3 has soldered heatbed, so total cost for an upgrade is €701.10
mk4s kit: €683.05
I hope pricing for the upgrade kit will go down.
And, off-topic for this comment, but on topic for this blog post: €683.05!!! That is a good price! Damn. I want yet another printer…
I also noticed the price, with the MK3S+ upgrade to MK4S being more expensive than the MK4S kit.
And by upgrading, you also loose the spare PSU, frame and bearings!
With that said, I hope for an i3 MK5 with and upgraded housing (smaller and with active heating) in the future!
The i3 line of 3D-printer is quieter, easier to maintain and super fast to repair. The only real drawback is being a bit slower and the smaller build volume. As a whole, the i3 makes a lot of sense for print farms, smaller shops and home users.
