At last, Factorio has officially arrived on Printables.com! You can download 65 individual models and bring the alien planet on your table.

Wube has prepared 247 STL files featuring different variations, tolerances, and scales. Some are designed for push-fit assembly, while others have higher clearances for gluing. Sounds a little crazy? There is another phrase for it: seeking perfection. And that’s exactly what Factorio is about.

So, download the models, slice them, hit print, and read the rest of the story!

(And if you don’t know what Factorio is, try the free demo. But be warned, it is a game you can spend hundreds or even thousands of hours in. Even Josef was addicted to it!)

Space Age and the Reality Check

In the summer of 2024, Wube prepared their Space Age DLC and invited players to a playtesting event in Prague. Since Wube are fans of 3D printing and we are fans of Factorio, we had a booth there. During the weekend, someone had the idea to print something from the game. Fearghall Thomas from Wube modeled a “Wriggler” right on the spot. It went from idea to reality in 20 minutes, just to see if we could do it. We loaded an Original Prusa XL and printed a full plate. It was a blast, and everyone at the playtest stopped by our booth to watch the monsters grow layer by layer. And an idea was born: let’s create some official models.

The Pursuit of Perfection

But we had a reality check right there on the spot. Those tentacles and shapes weren’t very 3D-printing friendly, so we had to use a large brim to print them safely.

But the real issue goes deeper. Isometric 2D game models are incomplete and hide the parts you do not see. You might say there were already loads of unofficial models online, like the iconic belts. The community has done amazing work! However, the guys at Wube weren’t totally satisfied because they wanted to provide something 100% accurate, straight from the source.

So much work went into this…

Wube artist Jarosław Kolmaga had to redesign the entities from scratch. He had to figure out how to separate parts to avoid messy FDM supports and invent machinery for the dark spaces on the backs of machines that players never actually see. Thus began a long process of trial, error, and endless fine-tuning by programmer Karel Petr.

Factorio You Can Touch and Paint

Now you can print your own Factorio experience, including:

  • Transport belts and inserters
  • Biter spawners
  • Chests and stone furnaces
  • The player character

…but totally worth it!

You can print them in any color, but if you choose a one-color print, they look fantastic in Prusament Galaxy Silver and can be painted by hand. Alternatively, you can use your MMU3 unit.
