We’re launching a new Prusament filled with wood! The Prusament Woodfill Linden Light is an easy-to-print material that stimulates multiple senses. It looks like wood, feels like wood, smells like wood during the printing and even sounds a bit like wood when knocked on. Let’s take a closer look at it!

What is Prusament Woodfill Linden Light?

While there are other wood-filled filaments on the market already, our product offers some cool features and superior printability.
You can find this filament in the Eco category on our e-shop. Similarly to our previously launched rPLA filaments using various waste products, the wood used in this filament comes from the wood manufacturing process waste.

Due to the high wood content, the material is suitable not only for regular types of postprocessing, such as sanding and painting, but also for staining, the same as with unprocessed wood. This allows you to make a nice, vintage look, even more indistinguishable from real wood.

A fun fact: We didn’t use actual 100% pure linden wood for this filament. However, the wood mixture we chose for this filament has the same color. And yet, you may ask, why we picked the color of linden, as it’s a relatively uncommon kind of wood. Well, linden is the Czech national tree, and – as you surely all know – Prusa Research is a Czech company. This is one of the many ways we show the world where we come from.

Printing properties

The greatest advantage of Prusament Woodfill Linden Light is its easy printability. Most filaments filled with wood powder (or other similar additive) need a 0.6 mm, or even bigger nozzle for best results. However, the Prusament Woodfill Linden Light can be easily printed with a standard brass 0.4 mm nozzle. Also, it doesn’t have to be dried before printing. The recommended printing temperatures are 195 °C for the nozzle and 60 °C for the heatbed. We recommend using the satin sheet, but a smooth sheet with a separation layer (glue stick) is also usable. Printing on a textured sheet is not recommended, as the adhesion might be too low.

Material color, weight and price

Right now, we have one color for our new woodfill: Linden Light. The bonding polymer is a colorless material, so it’s the wood particles alone that give this filament its color. This also means the shade may vary slightly between spools since we’re using a natural material.
You can buy Prusament Woodfill Linden Light at our e-shop for 34.90 USD / 39.90 EUR (VAT incl.) per kilogram.

Typical applications

As for the typical applications, the Prusament Woodfill Linden Light is similar to other materials with subtle and natural colors. We suggest using it for printing visually attractive models such as home decor, and similar applications. If printed properly, it can perfectly imitate real wood, especially when it’s sanded and stained. We can also recommend mixing it with other materials, such as PLA Galaxy Black or rPLA with natural pigments.
